RULER WORK CLUB

(domestic sewing machine – 2 hours)

Come and spend time exploring the wonderful world of ruler work on a domestic sewing machine.  The club will start with the demonstration of a new ruler, and then the rest of the time you decide what you would like.  Time to practice some ruler work, ask questions and get advice on quilting designs or work on a project.  Come and spend some time with others and explore the wonderful world of ruler work on a domestic sewing machine.

Ruler work with Westalee Rulers
RULER WORK BASICS

(domestic sewing machine – 6 hours)

Learn the basics of ruler work on a domestic sewing machine using Westalee Design Templates. Topics covered include: installing the foot on your machine, thread tension, stitch length, and proper use of rulers.  You will leave knowing how to use the 12” Starter Arc as well as all the templates in the 6 Piece Sampler Set.

FABULOUS FEATHERS WITH RULERS

(domestic sewing machine – 3 hours)

Learn to create a variety of feather styles using the Westalee Design Feather Template and Feather Spine Template.  We will discover how to create feathers of uniform size as well as different size plumes on both straight and curved spines. We will be working on practice sandwiches.  Table Runner and Placemat project instructions will be provided for you to work on after class.

QUILTED PLACEMATS WITH RULERS

(domestic sewing machine – 3 hours)

Working with the June Tailor Quilt-As-You-Go Casablanca placemat (6 per package) we will piece one placemat and then quilt it using either the Circle Ruler Set or Oval Ruler Set.  We will first practice the designs on a sample sandwich and then quilt these designs on the placemat.  You should finish one placemat in the class and will have the confidence to complete the other placemats outside of the class setting.

BORDERS AND SASHINGS WITH RULERS

(drawing class, no sewing machine – 3 hours)

Learn how to create unique borders and sashing designs for your quilts.  This is a drawing and design class – instead of sewing we will be drawing. Using the rulers that you already have you will explore ways to create unique border and sashing designs.  Topics covered included: making the designs fit the space, working around corners, and dividing larger border and sashing spaces .

DESIGN LAB - RULER WORK DESIGNS

(design class, no sewing machine – 3 hours)

So you have the basic Westalee Design Rulers (the 12” arc and the Sampler Set).  You learned how to use the rulers on your sewing machine but you wish are stuck with ideas on what designs you can create with them. Well then this class is for you. We won’t be stitching on fabric but we will be playing with paper and pencil and drawing out designs.  See the great design possibilities that you have with these rulers.

RULER WORK DESIGN LAB - CLAM SHELLS

(drawing class, no sewing machine – 3 hours)

Working with the Clamshell Ruler  and 2” Simple Circle from the Sampler Set we will explore the great wealth of clamshell designs you can create. We won’t be stitching on fabric but we will be playing with paper and pencil and drawing out designs.  See all the great design possibilities that you have with these rulers.  At the end of the class you will have several designs that you can stitch out in quilt blocks and learn ways that you can work at creating your own designs.
